Can anyone explain to me what a "send" is used for on a stage box? I understand what a snake is but I am confused about the "send". Thanks.

The sends are used in live situations to send signals back down the snake from the mixer and 'front of house' racks to feed the monitors, the main amp racks, communication with the monitor engineer, etc.
