Here's my first post. This is a quick couple of hour job on 'The House is Rockin' by SRV done in an 80s heavy metal style.
This is actually my first time using a condenser mic and to my ears the vocal sounds terrible, it seems to have a natural reverb from the recording room. Any help on this??

Hope you all enjoy,

Jon

Mix has very hyped highs. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but it kinda hurts my ears ;)

So there's no artificial reverb on the vocals?

Condensor mics....you gotta get used to them is my experience. Perhaps change your recording room a little.

Hehe, sorry about hurting your ears. I wouldn't say my monitors are world class, so I'm not too suprised.

There's a tiny bit of verb on the whole mix, but 90% of what you hear on the vocals is from the room.

great guit performance, solid rock there - I hat to cut almost all highs and some of the middles and then it sounded really good
IMO you should take a bit of reverb from the voc and bring it slightly in front

cheers

If it's on 'tape' there's nothing you can do about it...

Hey, does your mic have a Omni/Directional switch? If it does:
perhaps you could try retracking the vocals with the Omni modus turned off (Omni is cool when you have a nice ambience in your room, but there's virtually no homerecorder with a nice ambience in their bedroom)

The mic is a Behringer B1 which is not omnidirectional, so that is not an issue. I re-recorded the vocals but sang closer to the mic, that made a big improvement, theres still some reverb but its much more tolerable.

I also added a harmony and tried to control the harshness....Hope this one is better:

Oh, and thanks for listening everyone!

The guitar tone is pretty good I think. The drum samples work. The vocals are really reverby, that might have been what you were going for.

Much better on the vocals on the second post. nice.

You still have WAY too much bright on the guitars. It's like they're coming through a tin can or something. Except for the lead. That actually isn't bad at all.

You're a great guitarist. You go, CC Deville!

I like the song. I just can't handle the treble smack in my face.

Little fatter on the drums and guitar. The bass and vocals actually sound really nice. Take some high-end off the drums and the guitar and you've got a winner!

:-)

I liked this. Nice job.

Thanks PiltdownMan!!

Hope I wasn't as bad as CC!

I'm starting to think my monitors (old sony hifi :D) are getting a bit knackered. I can hear the treble but it doesn't seem too bad, maybe it's just my ears?
