Sqeaks on playback

When I playback my recordings, I often get what I can only decribe as a squeak every few seconds. They are very short duration, and sound kind of like sneakers on a basketball court. It only happens when I play audio that is stored on my dedicated audio drive (40 gig, 7200 RPM, defragged). The squeaks suddenly disappear after maybe 30 minutes of playback. If I copy everthing to my OS drive (10 gig, 5400) then the files play fine.

I am running XP with Sonar. I has the same hardware setup with 98SE and Cakewalk PA 9 and don't recall this problem.

Is it possible this is the result of a bad hard drive? I did a disk scan which found no problems. I also tried disabling my CD-RW and USB ports with no effect. I am running Xp with a "standard PC" setup, and my soundcard (the Aardvark Q10) is on its own IRQ. Both hard drives have DMA enabled.

Could this be the result of some other conflict? Any ideas?
