I did a live recording job a couple of weeks ago of a guy with 1 vocal and 1 gutair straight from the powered mixer to MD.
It would have been helpful for me to have been able to split the vocals to the left and the gutair to the right during recording. If I could record it this way, then I would have more control during the mix-down.
Is there a way to split it from the mixer, or do I need to get to the music before it goes in?
Any suggestions?

Iam not sure about what your saying but i'll take a stab at it.What you wanted was vocals on one track and guitar on another track. If thats the case, you would need to have the mixer channels panned hard left or right on the powered mixer.

When the performer is on stage you can't pan left and right though. Otherwise he will sound like he is 20 ft. from his guitar.

You can use a y conector at the input stage unless the performer has extra aux left and right that he or she are not using. Send one to track 1 and the other to track 2.

Otherwise the y connector works. (1 cannon or phono in and 2 out.
Hope this helps.
