Just got my new AT4050 mic home. Wow... Really sounds great.

I now realize however, why people complain about the spider mount.

I've used 10+ other kinds of mics and spider mounts, and this one is just put together stupid.

Am I supposed to stretch the black elastic band around the mic somehow, or is the mic just supposed to flop around on top of it?

I don't get it !! If somebody know's the answer, please let me know.

(Most spider mounts I have used just have an easy squeeze clamp right??)

really!

I don't have a 4050 but it sounds like the shock mount for the 4040 I have. It's a pain to get the mic into the rubber band. I use 2 big paper clips to hold the rubber band open, slide the mic in and remove the paper clips and viola the mic is nice and secure!

This has worked for me but I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else has a good idea of how to get the mic into the shock mount.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Ok - so the goal IS to get the mic into the elastic band. Good to know.

Looks like loading this baby is going to be a 2 person, and 2 paper clip job!:D

Great Mic, Horrible Shock Mount.

Thanks for the tip !!
