Hi,

I recently bought an used M-Audio Fast Track Ultra and a cad 7 pri mic drum kit . I have a couple of XLR and 1/4'' cables.

What should I buy to be able to connect all 7 mics and use the SPDIF connection ?

I am willing to buy anything not to expansive that would work.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Looks like that unit has 6 analog inputs and spdif stereo digital input.
4 of the analog inputs have mic preamps, so that's 4 down.
5+6 are line input only, so you'd need a 2 channel pre with line outs, or a little mixer to use these inputs.

There are preamps out there with spdif output built in.
I don't know any offhand though (except maybe the art mpa digital?). Have a google for that.

If you can cut your needs down to 6 mics then you'd only need to buy/borrow/find one extra piece of hardware. ;)

You'd need three more preamps -- Or a different interface (one with more preamps).

Yup, if you're going to do drums on a semi-regular basis.... sell the fasttrack and get an interface with 8 or 16 inputs.

Just do it and get it over with.

+1 you are better off selling that and buying something like a US-1800. Way more channels and cheaper than buying a pre to go with your fast track.
