Hi.

Coming to the point where I need to buy some monitors, and there are many conflicting opinions.

I was just about to order some Wharfedale 8.2's until I read a review from Sound on Sound, which although rated them highly, suggested trying some Alesis M1 Active MKII's. The reviewer said these came out on top - great.
After reading more reviews on the both of these I was starting to consider the MKII's. Then someone suggested some KRK RP5's.

I am nowhere near anywhere where I can try these out for myself so I am having to rely on reviews.

Although the Alesis/Wharfedales were my original choice, the KRK's seem to get some good reviews also.

My room is 11' x 11.5' x 7.5' ( 1.0 x 0.9 x 0.65 ), and I will be doing dance and trance music. Normal bits of furniture ( couple of big wardrobes, bed, dresser... ). Currently own a MS2000R ( if that makes a difference ).

So any suggestions welcome ( don't want to go over £220/£240 ). I'm hoping no other models are thrown into the mix.

Im not familar with the Alesis but according to alot of user reviews on this forum, they think the ALesis sucks.

I never tried the KRK RP5's but they are pretty nice. If you read the popular Wharfedale thread lots of praise for its quality. Lots of forums members claim that the Wharfedale 8.2's are the best monitors under $1000! There's also over 50,000 veiws on that page and also over 500 posts!!! Come'on thats really gotta tell you that the Wharfedale's are very nice. I'm buying the Wharfedale 8.2's over the Beri 8"er's Truths, KRK Rp8's, and the BX8a's.

"I never tried the KRK RP5's but they are nice" wtf? I own those Warf's and they are what they are. The quality is'nt fantastic but seems about right for their price. I would'nt say the best thing under a $1000.

I have the Alesis M1 Actives (the older model, not the MKIIs). Although admittedly I haven't had the opportunity to try any other brands in my studio, I would have to say these do the job just fine. I'm not sure why anyone would say they suck, in fact I think they were a pretty good value for the money. The Wharfedale's or KRKs might be better, either in their performance or value - I just don't know, but nonetheless I am happy with my Alesis monitors.
