This is kind of an off the wall question so I guess it would fit best here.
I record using a mixer that doesn't have direct channel outputs so I have to use the insert points on each channel. However, I'd like to be able to still monitor through the channel for both live tracking and overdubs. I know you can plug the patch cables in "halfway" but I'm wary of doing this as it leaves too many things to chance.
As a solution, I'm wondering if its possible to make cables that are male TS on one end and male TRS on the other. The Tips and Sleeves would be wired together (as per standard TS cable). On the end with the TRS, the Ring would be connected directly to the Tip as well, thereby sending the signal back to the channel (as Tip is send and Ring is return). This sounds like it would work, in theory, as (to me, at least) it sounds to be the same concept as multing on a patch bay. However, there's a good chance I'm overlooking something, so I'm asking any and all of you if this seems like it would work, or if there is something I'm overlooking that could cause an impedance mismatch or a short (like when you plug a cable with hot and cold wired together into a power outlet and it blows the fuse). If any of this is confusing I can try to clarify.
