SPDIF soundcard

I've been recording on a Fostex VF-08, and now want to use the SPDIF out to burn CDs off my computer. I have so far not used my computer for any recording, so I don't have any software except for burning (Easy Record 5 or something). I've been trying to decide between the Audiophile 2496 and the Delta Dio 2448. The audiophile comes with more inputs such as MIDI and some soundforge software and stuff, but is more expensive. My question is, am I going to need more software anyways to record the signal coming from the SPDIF, or can I just use some basic windows software without loss of quality, or is there some kind of shortcut where I could go straight to the burning software (again without loss of quality)? I'm really not sure how the SPDIF stuff works, so any input is extremely appreciated.

Naa...you shouldn't need extra software to handle the recording of S/PDIF signals.It'll just show up in your dialog box of inputs as another choice.I have a j-station hooked up va S/PDIF to the daughtercard of my c-port as my experience.It was simple,just used a 700 ohm video cable or whatever the rating is.

The cable used for S/PDIF is the digital audio cable sold at most stereo stores, and, Radio Shack. Its the only Radio shack cable I use. Its the one with RCA connectors, not the optical. IIRC it has a differant impedance than the video cable. I found Radio SHack had the best deal on it around here, and were the only ones who had a long enough one in stock for what I was doing.

Unfortunately I'm still not sure about the process of getting the audio onto CD. T.H., once I've got the SP/DIF as my input, won't audio coming through it have to be recorded onto my hard drive in .wav or some kind of audio format before I can burn it to CD? To do that wouldn't i need to use some kind of software, and if so, would I be better off using special software rather than the stuff that came with the computer? Sorry if your last post already answered this, I wasn't sure. Obviously I'm a little new at this. Thanks again for your help.

Yes.

Yes, you will, but it can be had for fairly cheap. Cool Edit is all you'll ever need, and it can be had for $50 or so.
