Is this just another "insert" or is it used for something else?
Can you only use this when recording, not mixing down?
Is latency an issue with these things?

Hey, Ido... I honestly don't know what you're asking. Let me just spew useless trivia and see if any of it helps.

Latency is the time it takes an audio signal to go from input (mic, instrument, etc), through a converter, into computer, get processed, leave the computer get converted again and arrive at monitors or headphones.

SPDIF is a digital format for transferring up to 2 channels of audio. USB is... well, you know what USB is.

SPDIF could be the digital path for transferring your digitized audio between your converter and the computer. I use SPDIF for my converter, it goes into my EMU 0404 soundcard which has an SPDIF interface. (I don't use the converters on the EMU anymore, just the SPDIF interface.) From there it goes into Cubase.

As a side note, most computers built nowadays have SPDIF Outs on the back. They are geared towards home theatre stuff and are usually only 48khz sample rate.

Does this help???
