I was considering getting a sp1200, but they only have like 10 seconds of sampling on them, so besides drums, is there anything that a sp1200 is useful for, can I sample loops with it like you can with the mpc and other sampler/sequencers

I was thinking about getting that unit too or should I say it's predecessor (SP12)...

If anyone has any info, I'd like to know too...

Peace,
Beathoven

The SP12 (older SP), has no on-board disk drive, and I assume you would want to store your samples. I had one and could not find a disk drive that would work well with it, so I eventually got rid of it. The SP-1200 however solves this problem. as far as the RAM is concerned yes the RAM is pretty limited, but there are "creative" ways to get more sound into the machine, for example the old trick of playing a record at 45 instead of 33 then down tuning the sample back to its original speed.

so would I be able to completely produce beats on the sp1200, the drums, loops, and all

you can, if you are creative... The sp series is really great

but expensive now days.

I think Pete Rock uses a SP1200 for drums and a S950 for longer samples. It's really hard to do anything else than sampling drums or drum loops on the SP1200. It sounds great though.

the only reason people still buy it is because of it`s brilliant lo-fi sound...

think about what kind of drums do you want....

the sp-1200 makes dirty, wu-tang sounding drums...

while an mpc makes clean Jermaine Dupri sounding drums...

why else would you pay that much money for ten seconds of sampling time...

I think I am going try to buy a sp1200 and an s950 now, but besides ebay are there any other places I can find these
