I'm considering one of these why? Because of the reviews that's why. Yes I'm actually falling for this crap. Do you have a C1 what are your comments? Do you not own a C1 but would like to share your wisdom on the subject? Please enlighten me.

Well everyone better get their say in before Dr. Doom shows up.

You can listen to 3 different mic tests with the C1 in this thread. Just use your browser's "find" function to find the three instances in which they are used.

Love it on male vocals, hate it on female vocals, it's pretty darn good as a room mic or drum overhead too.

That mic is just too bright, not balanced at all.

I'm not Dr.Doom ,so I'll stand in LOL..But I have tried out the C1 and C3..I didn't like it{YMMV} , to me it was..too brite and congested in the mids..But thats me you may like it..You gotta try before you buy..Good luck

Used it as a room Mic on Sat night...

Really "filled" up the bottom end...

Not sure if this was a result of my room (not treated at all) but I was happy with the result I got...

OH..C4's (cardoid caps) XY
snare...C1000 top...57 bottom
floor/hi tom ...2 57's
kick...beta 52...

C1 as room...which I stated earlier filled up the low end....really filled it up...

Thanks for all the replies so far. Man this site is so helpful. I'm soaking it all in like a sponge.

That testing mics song by Jeff is great.

So far, mixed results as usual.

One thing I've heard repeatedly is that the mic is too bright and not real well for recording female vocals. That's good to know since I plan on recording my wife singing. I'm not rushing out to buy one yet.

The advice is to test a mic before you buy. That's good advice but these mics aren't easily accessible in stores.

Thanks again everyone.

If you need an overly hyped bright cheapo mic the c1 is probably just the thing. I hated it on my voice. some folks like it? go figure!!

It is a bright mic. Pretty similar in sound to the earlier Rode NT1's and NT-2's. It has what they call a smiley-face curve to it, as it isn't very solid in the mids, in my opinion. Can be overly-bright and sibilant at times. On the right source, though, it can be quite flattering. Just depends on the source.

Works on some things and doesn't work on others. Imagine that.

One thing to keep in mind is that this enhanced (hyped) or brightness is not exclusive to the C1, it is fairly typical of most mics which use an Asian manufactured capsule, Chess mentioned the Rode NT1 and 2, I have also heard similar comments about other Rode models and you will also encounter the phenomena on mics from MXL, SE, ADK, Nady, Samson, etc, etc.

So far, I haven't found a voice that a C1 didn't give adequate results from..........not necessarily stellar, but definitely not shite either.

What an endorsment.

I'm sold!

I have sibilance issues on some singers with my C1 as well... but on the right voice, this mic sound really nice and smoooooth.... :)

Its probubly the most used LDC in my locker...Ive used it with good results...mine is an early model before changes were made to them

I had one, but sold it to someone on this board (not because I didn't like it, but because I'm looking for a different sound right now). It's a great mic for the money.

Like all mics it's fabulous on some voices and sounds like ass on others. I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed.

Happy recording!

I find its a pretty versatile mic for vocals. Might not do them all extremely well but it works better then others i have tried in the price range.

People might hate me for saying this, but i A/B'd my C1 against my Neumann U87 with John Hardy M1 Pres. I was actually surprised how similiar the really do sound next to each other. The C1 was definately harsher in the highs and less solid in the mids and lows, but i was still really amazed at how similiar they do sound. So voices that work well on a Neumann U87 would probably work well for this mic.

But alot of people here do not like the sound of the U87 on vocals either which might be the same reason why they dont like the C1. I agree the U87 is a bit over rated and is a little bright.

But im sure all this stuff has been discussed before.
