The U47 can be a good mic for some vocalists. No one mic sounds good on every source.

Now that we're done damning with faint praise, enjoy your purchase Prag_B. IMO, you'll enjoy it quite a bit, and in a pinch you can always use it to bludgeon naysayers.

It's really not that big a deal. Just buy what you think you'll like, try it, and sell it if you don't like it. It's not like we're talking about loosing a lot of money, and it's a great way to learn about what mics we do like. Sheesh! I've bought and sold so much stuff, it'd make your head spin! :p

Just when you thought the thread was finished..!

Sorry to drag the thread further, but I'm also seriously considering the SP C1 (along with other mics in the same range: MXLV69, MXL2003, AT4040....) -- several of you said the mic you choose depends on the voice. I know it's still a shot in the dark, but I'll ask anyway: Which mic (in the same price range) would you use for a singer with a style and sound close to that of the lead singer in Incubus? And how about Coldplay? (I realize they're two very, _very_ different voices...!)

Thanks for your help!

mbouteneff--

That dude in Coldplay is tracked through the wrong mic. He sounds like the "S" king. I love the stuff but he needs a different mic.

Anyhow, of the mics you name, I personally think the AT mic is a better quality mic. But, it doesn't make it the best mic for a particular voice.

If you've got great preamps, then you might look at a Shure SM7.
