It`s crunch time and one is gonna win out but I need help.
Which would you guys choose? (gonna be an all around mic but i`ll eventually get mxl 603`s and an sm57)
I`m also thinking of the M-Audio DMP3 since I have the audio buddy and have heard the phantom power on the audiobuddy doesn`t exceed 41v
cheers

1 vote for the Audio Technica, it works on everything I throw at it. Not my first choice now, but at that price point it is a great mic for lots of stuff

bugger just missed it!
getting a good deal from sameday.
leaning towards the 3035...thanks big kenny
anymore opinions from anyone else?

I bought a AT 3035 2 weeks ago and I am very impressed! I tried it on a male and female vocal, and I actually like it on both, and absolutely no problem with sibilance. There is also a 10db pad and a bass roll off switch, which the B1 doesn't have. I find the B1 is more harsh in the high end then the 3035.

Personnaly, I would suggest the 3035 even if I own both mics, I find it more versatile (vocals, electric guitar, drums, toms!!)

You know, in that price range you have a heck of lot of other choices. Don't you owe it to yourself to explore those as well? I mean, as worthy as the B1 and 3035 are there's no point in limiting yourself.

Other people on this board have used and liked:

ADK A51: $149
AKG C2000B: $179.00
CAD M179: $199
MXL V67: $159
Røde NT1A: £199
SP B3: $169
SP C1: $199

There's also the Apex 410 (which I've not seen any opinions on), the M-Audio Luna (ditto) and probably a dozen more. All for under 200 clams.

Yup, that's what I have always really liked about the AT3035 is no sibilance issues with anyone so far.

Guitar cab work is easy with the AT as well.

Haven't used a B1.

War, it seems that in every post you make, you sing the praises of the CAD 179. I'm looking at picking up an AT 4040, and was wondering if you have any opinions on how the two compare...

If anyone else has any input, feel free to chime in!

The two are good all purpose condensors, AT4040 the AT4040 being cardioid only of course. The AT4040 has a bit more bite to it on the top end. Both are better suited to instrument recording in my opinion but can make good vocal mics as well. I would say AT4040 the AT4040 slightly edges out the M179 for acoustic guitar recording where you need a brighter mic and want to capture a little more high end detail.

The M179 isn't dark, it's more that AT4040 the AT4040 is a little brighter.

The M179 is surprisingly kick ass for its price, which is why I suggest it a lot. I have 2 in my personal studio and they get a fair amount of use (mainly on acoustic lead stuff and drum overheads, I own a fair variety of mics for many different jobs though). The versatile patterns alone make it a great "go to" mic for any home or project studio for less than $200. It just doesn't sound bad no matter where you point it, not always optimum (as is the case with all mics) but always good to great anyhow.

Good luck picking between the two! I'd lean towards 2 CAD M179's in your price range. We've sold a bunch and have never had a complaint.

i own the 3035 and the B1. on my voice I like the 3035 much more than the B1. I leave the bass rolloff switch on all the time for vocals. on acoustic guitar I get signal from both and get a pretty good sound that I'm happy with. on my amp I use the B1 and it sounds great. I tried the 3035 on my old amp and did not like it at all, preferred an SM57, but haven't tried it on my new rig. I am happy with both mics...looking to expand my mic cabinet but don't plan to sell these. 3035 sounds pretty good on drum overhead too, where the 10db pad is useful. the B1 has no pad or high pass filter (bass rolloff)

The AT3035 gets my vote. I've had one around here for about a month and it gets a lot of use on vocals.
