I've seen these amps around, but I've never tried one out. What do you guys think of 'em?

sovtek amps have a sweet tone, their gain is perfect(in my opinion)they got a beautiful crunch, i always wanted to buy one, their price is sooooo reasonable, but i always got caught up in buying recording equipment.but i tried out a fender strat through one and i thought it sang beautifully.i tried the 50 watt head with the 4x12 cab,i forget the name,a midget or something like that?but i do a lot of straight ahead rock and roll ,no frills, blues, funk and so forth playing and i love pure tone,so i enjoyed it.

The sovtec heads are Russia's answer to the Fender Bassman's. A no frills, well constructed amp with good tone. Played side by side, I prefer the bassman for most stuff, but the midgets that Ive played have this cool grit to their tone that I liked. For the price, I would get one, ( I made our second guitarist get one, So Ive had no need as of yet), but I suggest you play it before you buy it. It has no channel select, no reverb, no nothing really. Just a bunch of knobs to adjust the one clean sound.
Check it out.
Good luck,
Todd

After owning a Sovtek for like 6 years, I'd never consider a Marshall. The 100W head only cost $200.

One warning: the plastic input jacks suck. I've gone through three or four high inputs. The part isn't standard either. The guys I take it to for repair, only charge 20 bucks part included. Plus those dolts were working on it with the power on once. Knocked out the power for their whole building.

I'd like to be able to say my guitar amp killed someone, wouldn't you? That's really what's important here.

My bass player has the Sovtek bass head. It's bitchin no doubts bout it.

Biggest regret I ever had was letting a Sovtek get away from me. I have a chance to pick up a used one for about $80. Because I was a little suspicious of the contruction, I passed on it and the guy that bought it loves it. It was a 50 watt and really sound great.
