HI Guys,

I'm trying to get a handle on this midi thing.

I have been using gigasampler and pro audio 9,

I'm happy with some of the sounds,
but I would like to be able to create and change some.

Can sf be converted to giga ?

If not, what is needed for sf ?

What good synth programs are out ?

How do they compare to real synths ?

Is there a cheeper way then giga or sf that is just as good ?

Fuzz my dude...
Can sf be converted to giga ?
Well, although I believe it can be, but it'll take a looong looong way to bethere. Since I don't use Giga, I'm not sure how to do that :)

You can use Vienna Soundfont Studio 2.3 to make and edit soundfonts.

You may want to check
www.thesoundsite.net
www.hammersound.net
for bunch of good quality FREE soundfonts...

Some are not bad. take 'em with salt & grain...

I dunno, but I think using sf is the cheapest way to get -well quality software based- synth. All you need is Creative's card, or LiveSynthPro DXi (if you work with SONAR).

I've been trying to find Vienna on Creative's Website for like a whole year.......

Nice to help you, Chrisjob. Actually, it's not really hard to find. The almighty Google has searched for me :D Just type keyword "Vienna Soundfont Download" :) It's there on the first result page...

Try Awave Studio to convert file types.

DirectMusic Producer from Microsoft is free, and uses downloadable sounds (dls) You can also use it for creating your own sounds. Mind you the program isn't exactly learner-friendly - I've been trying to get my head round it for a year now.

Hi!

Among other things, trying to learn DirectMusic Producer! If there are any whizzkids out there there who can explain it in plain English, I'd like to meet them. Microsoft's own help file is a torture.

I just thought of mentioning that for playing MIDI with a less than perfect soundcard, DirectX and Microsoft's own soft synth offers a real alternative. That is providing you replace the dreadful Roland soundbank with something decent. It's simple to use a format converter on soundfonts, but I'd like to learn to make sound files from scratch. Any teachers out there?

Nice to see you guys, too.

I'm not sure how to do that from the scratch. Since I use SB Live! (Crap card you can't live without :D) along with Delta card, I have no problem running soundfonts. It's rarely I found Microsoft DirectMusic Producer user around. I dunno where to look for help for this topic. Have you google it ?
