I am using an M-audio Audiophile 2496 on my Dell P4 for recording. Mostly I use cakewalk sonar 2 and I record at 24/96.

However, the computer also has a Soundblaster Live card that came included. I have the SBLive set up for default windows sounds and other non-recording applications. It runs through the cheap computer speakers that were included with the computer.

The M-Audio is just for recording work and runs through different speakers.

My question is this. I have been using software soundfont players as DXis to play soundfonts. I now wonder if I would be better off using the soundfont player on the Cakewalk SBLive. However, I am not quite sure how to integrate this in my setup. I don't want all the soundfont samples coming out of a different speaker setup. Is it possible to route the output of the SBLive, i.e. the sountfonts, into the Audiophile somehow? Also, if I can do this, will the sampling rate be an issue, given that the Audiophile is working at 24/96 and I don't believe the SBLive will do this?

sblive is 16/48 cant do 24/96.....just run the soundfonts through the audiophile..... i have almost the same setup you do....sonar 2.2xl and audiophile2496 i found it annoying to switch between the 2496 and my other sound card....plus the multi media speakers just took up extra space i could use to place other music stuffs. the 2496 handles everything from games to mp3s..i dont see why you dont just use it for it all. I'm not bashing you for using both....i just find it easier to have one that can do it all.

Here's how I did it - SBLive and an Echo Mia plus a small mixer.

Line out of the SBLive to the TapeIns of the mixer.

The main outs of the mixer go to the inputs of the 24-bit card.

All monitoring is from the 24-bit card.

Set your sequencer to send audio to the 24-bit card and all MIDI to the SBLive.

Works great, but once I tried a good soundfont softsynth (I use and bought the Bismark BS-16) I dumped the SBLive and just run everything through my Mia 24-bit card..... easier all around and I think better quality to the soundfont playback!

I use essentially the same setup as Tim but with a SB Live and a Delta 66 routed through a Behringer mixer (booo! hissssss!!!)
