It seems I've heard really good things about the Soundcraft Ghost, I'm thinking Sonus uses one. I've been investigating the Soundcraft M series, which is a pretty low cost lineup, and it turns out they use the same mic preamps as the Ghost console. Dunno about the EQ. Seems someone was raving about the mic amps in the Ghost, and I was wondering if anyone has compared them to the Mackie XDR's and/or the Allen & Heath. $1000 for about 12 channels of Ghost preamps... good buy?
Anyone have any hands-on here?
Thanks!

He tube,
I've been looking around for a used 32ch ghost also. Anyone know where to find them used (other than harmony-central,ebay,digibid)?

Tubedude,

At the rate you are going you will probably buy a pre in about 15 years only.........by then you will have even more choices to make.
with more gear out there the you can imagine....

I have counted 10 threads of "which pre to buy" from you in the past 3 weeks :). If you dont relax you might get a heart attack and that will totaly stop you from recording all together......

There are many different excellent pre's out there each with a different sound. Dont debate so much with yes Neve no Neve yes
Avalon no avalon...just buy one and start to use it.
Most people collect pre's slowly and build a small colection for every use. As I'm sure you know there isnt a single pre for every thing.
Tip of the day - buy one single good pre and relax and record and have fun :)

Yeah, I've turned into a nutcase. I think I need professional help. The good thing is, I'm passionate about it, and if it weren't for sitting here doing this I'd probably be out stoned somewhere trying to dig up some trashy chicks, so... maybe I'm better off :)
My main idea is to KNOW what I'm buying in November when I'm back in some money. After months of searching for what I want, I've probably found nothing more than that what I want is eVERYTHING, and I still don't know which way to go. Freaky thing is, I'm willing to spend $5000 on preamps while my truck falls apart around me. Oh well. :)

well, I've operated(in the last couple of days) on both the mackie SR24-4 VLZ Pro(24 channel mackie), and the Soundcraft Delta(24 channel soundcraft) and IMHO........ the soundcraft has won hands down. It just has sooooooooooooooo many features that mackie doesn't plus I like the sound a bit more, not a huge diff but noticable. I own a little mackie, nice sounding , but if I was going to get anything big, I would go soundcraft.

PS..... thought of this while I was lookin around....... the faders on the soundcraft are SOOOOOOOOO much smoother, one thing that drove me nuts having to use a mackie the next day, having these choppy little POS faders.......

Something Interesting

Though yall might be interested in this thread...

I guess you can say some people have had some real bad luck with consoles or maybe its time for 797 audio to get into making a chinese console copy of a neve at the price of a behringer hahaha.

Ok before ya start calling me a fool etc i know the above dont seem possible but getting a good mic for a fair price did not seem possible either untill Alan Hyatt did something about that so in light of whats already taken place anything could be really possible so lets wait and see i know im not going to rush any purchase on any gear untill i had it checked out first and i know its rock solid after all why should I OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER blow our money on gimicks or on someone elses ad campaign more set out to cause us end users long term pain and a case of premature hair loss the old saying BUYER BEWARE

after reading that thread, well I rememberd why I used to prefer the mackies..... a lot of the soundcraft stuff looks really cheap, everything on em looks like itz made from cheap plastic, it just looks cheap, BUT they aren't cheap boards, I really like em and I still think they are better than mackie's.

I am using a S/craft Spirit Studio 8 buss and it's built like a tank, not to mention the fact that it does have nice pre's and eq's for a console in it's price range. I can only presume that the Ghost would be another step up.

Peace..........ChrisO
