Soundcraft Spirit or Behringer Please Help

Well I'm finally going to purchase a mixer and am currently stuck on which to get. I like the Soundcraft Spirit E8 and the Behringer UB2442FX. I currently have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT and would really like the direct outs of the Behringer but I've heard good things about Soundcraft. Could somebody offer some input on the subject? Thanks

Get the Soundcraft. It has much better sounding pre-amps and higher-headroom summing busses. The EQ is british and is far more responsive than the Behringer boards. Direct outs are nice to have, but not at the expense of the rest of the mixer.
 
Is it possible to use the inserts as outs somehow? I've heard this mentioned in other posts.

What about between the Soundcraft and the Allen & Heath?
 
Consider the Soundcrft M Series instead of the E Series. The M series has dirert outs and other features. Better build too.
 
The simple fact is you can get good results with both boards.

Your own ability will have way more influence than the particular sound of each unit.

FWIIW I originally started with a Spirit FX and have also just puchased a UB2442, both do a job but I prefer the Berry.
 
Too bad you can't budget in an M8. This board is probably the best 8 channel board on the market. 8 direct outs, 4 stereo returns for effects, inserts... kind of makes you long for a 24 channel version, at the prices the boards go for it would be under $1500 street.

On that note, I think we should all bombard Soundcraft with a plead for 16, 20 and 24 channel versions of this board! I mean, if a large enough number of people emailed they would at least have to say NO instead of ignoring us :)

Well, perhaps wait until you have $500 or so. The Soundcraft M Series is an excellent prduct for the $$.
 
My 2 cents


I have the UB2442 Pro.

Good board, except for the 3 dead channels and the noisy effects.

Ive had it from about september. Worked great up until january of this year when the aforementioned problems occured.

Ill be getting a yamaha mg24 now,
"Moving on up to the east side, to a deluxe apartment in the sky....."

I have a Beh DI and Bass Vamp, both are fantabulous.

All in all, it is a good board for the price/features.

I've used it/abused it for live shows and practice pa, as well as some good 'ol recording. It stood up to the relentless onslaught of
flying broken drum sticks (mostly my doing).

knowing what i know now, i still would have bought it. You really cant beat it if your on a budget.
 
Ok now I've done a little thinking and came to another question, would it be better to purchase 2 M-Audio DMP3's so I have 4 channels of preamps plus the 2 the soundcard has or is a mixer still a better option to go with?

Depends on what your're doing. If it's mixing drums and bass, your going to want the board. If your doing vocals and guitar/keyboards on top of midi drums then the DMP3 would work. However, 2 of them are not going to give you much mixing or routing capabilities like a mixer.

The 1010LT is 8 in and 8 so, if you get a board, you could do a little out of the box mixing and even run some external outboard gear. There are no routing options with the DMP3.

The M series Soundcraft pres are slightly better sounding, whatever that means, than the DMP3, not sure about the E series but when I checked them out they appeared cheaply made compared to the M series. When I say better sounding, they have a richer quality and are slightly more clear at the high end of the spectrum.

If your not tracking a band I would probably steer you toward the RNP and an RNC combo.

Slightly off topic but kinda on topic too if build quality is up for discussion...I recently acquired a M-Series Soundcraft (M12) and lately - I have noticed something odd and wanted to find out if anyone had experienced this or if I have a problem with my new board:

If I have any signal coming into this board with the L+R Mains outs set to the top of the fader travel (zero) and I turn my main monitor volume control to zero, I can still hear a very faint kinda crackly version of the signal. Same thing with the headphone jack. I would have though that off means off with these two knobs. Of course if I lower the L + R mains to the bottom of their fader length...I finally get silence.

Anyone else notice this? Should I be worried....or is this totally normal crosstalk? Any updates or tests from others would be appreciated
