Soundcraft Ghost Direct Out

I want to record the signal from only the preamp of the ghost and I want to be able to fool around with the EQ and the fader of each channel without messing up anything.

The console doesn't seem to be able to output pre-fader, pre-eq (pre everything!). I do not have this console but have been reading half of the manual and didn't get anyclue to how to do this.

Could anyone who is using the ghost help me?

Does that mean you want to 'mess with the eq and fader w/o affecting the record out?
If you have the manual, look for a block diagram. They are a good way to see the signal flow.
 
Check the manual for their description of their "insert" jacks to see if they are pre-what-you-need-them-to-be. If so, you can use the "one click" method (just push a cable in one click and one click only) to tap the signal off the insert jack without interrupting what's going to the rest of the channel strip.

You would have to use the inserts as the recording outputs are post EQ and fader.
 
I would like to know if any of you users of the ghost find that this is a limitation... How do you do your tracking for example? Can someone point out a direct example to tracking with the ghost? The inserts are unbalance, which makes me nervou for direct recording...

Unless the cables are exssesively long, unbalanced sends shouldn't be a problem.
 
In my opinion, record outs that are post fade and post EQ are not a limitation. In fact ones that are pre everything are the real limitation. If you don't want the EQ, null it. If you do not want the fader to affect your tracking signal, leave it at unity.

you'll be fine unless yer doing crazy long runs or live next to a powerplant. i think some of the GML stuff is unbalanced...so yer in good company.

i use the ghost pres for toms all the time and go direct. they're great for that.

I've been tracking with a ghost for years. If you don't want EQ, turn it off. If you want a working mix that doesn't change the recording level, use the mix B.

Interesting that there were folks with just the oppisite issue of the lack of flexability on the Mackie's version of digi-record outs being pre-everything but gain. :)
