Is it possible to use this mixer to send 8 channels out to my 8 track recorder? Any advice or comments about this mixer?

Thanks,
Jeremy

This mixer does not have direct outs on each channel so I guess it's not possible. Coincidently yesterday I had a quick look at the E-series review in the April edition of Sound on Sound magazine. They also mentioned the somewhat limited use of this mixer in recording situations.

each channel has inserts so you could do it that way....

I did notice that it had insert points at each channel. I think these are pre-EQ and and pre fader but still utilize the preamps? I would like to get the M-series but they are too pricey for me...I really am maxing out paying the 400 for the e12.

I guess I just want to know am I better off getting the e12 or going with a Mackie like a 1402 vlz or something. I even saw a Soundcraft 200b 16 channel go for 400 on ebay.

couldnt honest answer that..never heard the E series before....i would doubt seriously that any preamp that Soundcraft makes is trash.....

you could always get the e6 for $299.....

if you are gonna go spending 4 and 500 you could always go into a full blown PC DAW......

I have a Soundcraft E12, and yes you can use the inserts using unbalanced cables to hook it up your recording device. They are pre-everything except for the preamps.

I usually don't record that many instruments at a time, so I just use the auxiliary outs (2 of em).

Well, I've got a tascam 788...

also some preamps, compressors, etc. And then I dump the wav files into my computer for mixdown/mastering (if you can call it that). I've got an audiophile 24/96 card that I haven't recorded with yet, but I used to send out the monitoring signal. I'm hoping to sync my 788 and computer via MIDI to give me 4 more inputs (2 analog and 2 digital). So I guess my system is blended.

Ok...does the gain knob still work with the inserts? And with the 2 aux groups does that give me those 2 outs plus the two master outs?

Thanks,
Jeremy

you got me on that one, but you could probably call a tech at Soundcraft and find out...or email them...

btw, what preamps, compressors, etc. do you have already?....

I've got an m-audio dmp3, joe meek vc6q, behringer vocal composer pro (I know...its behringer), hope to have an rnc soon, and at sometime plan on getting a grace 101.

Thanks
Jeremy
