I have a HP Pavillion......I use the following equipment, but was told I shoudl still upgrade to a better Soundcard.....What is the best one to get under $200??.... I was told using the SOundcard that comes with the computer no matter what else you have is not good......

......Follow this.....

I have a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer, a Samson CL-7 and a Shure SM58.....

I have both mics plugged into their own individual channel on my Behringer Mic2200, then from the MiC2200 they go to a Samson S-Com Compressor, and from the Compressor to the Yamaha MG10/2 mixer, to the Behringer UCA202 interface, to the computer.....

Yes, a better sound card is definitely worth getting. I use the E-MU 1212m card, works great!

I second that. I've been doing alot of research and this card seems to be the best for the price.

Emu - 1212m @ Musicans Friend for $149.99

SoundCard Problems

update....Here's the thing....Everybody suggested the E-MU 1212m and I went over to Musiciansfriend and they have it as discontinued...I tend to stay away from things that are discontinued....What about this?

M-Audio Audiophile 2496

does anyone have or know if this one is OK?

My main issue is I want something that I can use with ANY recording program, not one that comes with its own software....I'm used to Adobe and Cool Edit Pro and don't feel like learning another program at this point.....

I've got the audiophile 2496. I use it to capture my analog mixes from my 8-track. It does the job very well. I'm happy with it, anyway...

I guess there are better converters on the market, but it's not a big deal. The 2496 is a great card. I think you'd be happy with it.

and yeah, it works with reaper, pro tools... the list goes on...

Golden you got Windows XP?.....I saw a couple of postings in other palces saying that some of these don't work well with XP

Yes, I have Windows XP. Also, I've had the card for just over a year and I haven't experienced a single problem with it. Very reliable card in my experience.
