soundcard suggestion???

I'm trying to make a decision on a soundcard for my computer, with a budget of around $400. Essentially, I'm going to be recording one track at a time (guitar, vocals, bass, midi) but I'm trying to get suggestions the best sound quality.
I'd appreciate any suggestions :)
 
Well, I'm not sure? Probably one with a pre-amp cause right now I'm using a crappy Tascam Porta One as a pre-amp...but I'm not sure yet (I'm a newbie if you haven't noticed) please let me know if you got any suggestions.

if your computer already has a soundcard in it, and it has Midi capability, you can still use it for Midi....if not a SoundBlasterLive Value type card will do....
