juz got myself a new pc.
pentium 4 2.2
40gig of harddrive space
512 ram
and audigy digital entertainment soundcard(no breakout box)

my question is, it says on the box my soundcard is capable of multitrackin(maybe 2 max) but i dunno how to go about doin it.

any help/input would be grateful

You need to acquire a multitracking software like Cakewalk Sonar, Steinberg Cubase, etc, etc. You can probably find one for under $40, N-track studio is popular and I believe is $35, available only over the internet, a demo can be downloaded for free. There is an n-Track forum on this site. Your soundcard is capable of recording 2 tracks at a time, the total # of tracks in your project is limited by the software(if it has a limitation) and your computer's hardware. You should be able to get pretty decent results with that card and computer. Just be prepared for a steep learning curve!

Your two inputs are a stereo pair that can be panned hard right and left and selected individually in your software as two mono tracks.

It should be fairly easy.

What software are you using?

Dont use the soundcard's mic in. It wasn't meant for that kind of mic. Get a mixer. Given that you are only recording 2 tracks at a time max a cheap Behringer MX mixer will do just fine.

can i then assign them to diff tracks? or will they berecorded to one track already?

Eh?

You're using Sonar right? Record your tracks one at a time. Read the help files on Sonar.
