Uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh.

well if the configuration is a little different then we would know, wouldnt it be helpful to tell us what the configuration would be? ;)

Dell computers.

To the best of my knowledge, Dell computers have proprietary
configurations. So basically if you're trying to add anything other than RAM, GOOD F**KIN LUCK!!! I had a Dell and I wanted to install a sound card/interface. After extensive customer service calls to Event and Dell, I gave up and sold the damn computer and bought an open architecure computer which I configured from the motherboard, right up to the interface.

Trak.

I have a Dell XPS450 and last year I installed a Diamond MX300 Sound Card. Only problem was I had to disable the built-in-to-the-motherboard soundcard, and the guy from Dell tech support was fairly helpful...
I'm about to order a Gadget Labs 496...I hope I don't have any problems!

A PCI slot ain't that proprietary!
My Dell XPS 450 gave me a bag of shit when I tried to install ISA cards, but PCI stuff slides right on in as long as you've got available IRQs.
For a notebook, I'd be checking out the many USB interfaces on the market. Try the TASCAM first. They're complete solutions in that they combine mic pres, and a multiple-in/out breakout box that plugs right into a USB port.

The Guy in the shop, is saying that the configuration cannot be changed from EPP to "EP something". You'll have to bare with my lack of Compu skills and knowledge, I have been a die hard ATARI user for the past few years.

Hope some can throw me a frickin' bone

He's referring to the type of parallel port on the machine. has absolutely nothing to do with using a USB port (if your computer is new enough to have one) If you were using some sort of parallel interface (like I use for MIDI) this might matter but that stuff is ancient technology!
