will the soundcard that comes with lets say a Dell be sufficient for monitoring a mix. I have adats and want to use adat edit and sound forge. i am going to buy a dell and was curious if I need an additional sound card to monitor when the mix is on the computer?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Is sound forge installed on the dell? Are you going to be running the output of sound forge through the sound card and then out to a set of monitors? How are you getting the audio into the dell in the first place?

I'm just trying to visualize what part the dell plays in your overall set-up. Let us know more about how your equipment is hooked together and how you create your mixes.

More like a better card for recording. The stock dell onboard will just ok for monitoring.

I track to ADATS...So I think I was justing looking for a card for use with Sound Forge for mastering and editing adat tracks with "adat edit"

I reccomend jerking the stock cad and getting something like an audiophile. It has spdif's and analog so you can transfer your audio in & out to your ADAT.

I run my 424III into a pent. 4 1.8gig w/ 1gig mem. Sound Blaster
Live Drive sound card w/ spif's and 1/4 in's/out's . Cool Edit Pro, then out to master. That Live Drive interface w/ PCI card was 200.00. Not the best but better than others and does it all pretty well. Did I forget to say that I monitor the mixes through a pair of Studio Phile SP-5B's also.....Like building the old street cars,
" How fast can u afford to go ".......hehe.....
