So apparently there is a conflict with the Delta Series of cards when running a dual processor system in Windows 2000. DOH! Well, looks like no Delta 66 for me. So now I've gotta search around and find a card that will work with dual processors in Windows 2000. Or I could try running NT, but damn, after getting this Dual boot system (98/2000)going, I'm not wanting to change things too much!

I'm looking into the Gadget Labs cards now, but who knows- Any one have any ideas?

So here is the deal with Gadgetlabs:
Hi James,

Due to how Windows 2000 addresses a specific Windows NT 4.0-compatible
driver callback that our driver uses, our NT driver will only load on PC's
configured as 'Standard PC' in Windows 2000. Unfortunately, when configured
as 'Standard PC' in a dual processor computer, you will only be utilizing a
single processor. This is why this driver does not support dual processor
PC's under 2000, but does under Windows NT 4.0. The good news is that we are
working on a native WDM driver for Windows 2000 that shouldn't have any
problems on dual processor PC's. We hope to have this driver available by
the end of this summer.

I got this response in about 36 hours. YAY for them!

AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I'm doubting that anyone has solved this problem yet. :( I'll check out Event electronics.

But since I do have a dual boot system, I'm thinking that I could just use 98 until the drivers come out to support dual processing in Windows 2000. Man this kinda sucks! Maybe I'll up the ante a bit and try to overclock to squeeze a little more out when using a single processor. But I would have to do a lot of homework first!

that sucks , but is also good to know...i would say give NT a whirl , but its a flat out biiioootcchhh !! but go for it if your brave..

dont hold your breath for drivers at the end of the summer.. setbacks and delays will run amuck , its inevitable.. a la aardvark direct...

try NT .. be a man...itll put some hair on your chest and between your toes....

if i would have known there were so many issues with dual processors and soundcards in windows 2000 , i would have went for a single overclocked pentium... i guess before i build my next system with dual pentiums im gonna have to put some thought and planning into it...

Welcome to the "bleeding edge", James. Iron out all the wrinkles and tell me how to do it next year ;).

So Eddie leaves me to clean up the mess that he's made! :D

I'd like to go the NT route, but that will seriosly cut into my budget (unless I can get a freebie- oh did I say that out loud?) and be a big pain in the ass.

I need to get this going ASAP. The drummer is going back to Japan for a year to be with his wife in early October. And we want to do an album before that. Working with a single processor for now could be OK. I doub't that I would exceed it's limits if I'm carefull. But if i do....

...here's my next question. Could I track in 98 using a single processor, And then use the chepo soundcard in 2000 and put in all the plugins to get the mix going if I can't do it In 98? There would be dithering issues I think- would the cheapo sound card just truncate the extra bits on playback? (it's only 16 bit) Basically what I'm getting at is could I wait to dither down to 16 bit until the end and still do some work on it (hearing a truncated track)- mix it down to a stereo track which the single processor will have no problem handeling- move back to 98, Dither down the stereo track in it;s original 24 bit state, and burn it to Cd? Ok I'm sure I just confused all of you but i'm confused (obviously) myself!!!

Cool Thanks Slak! That's a good price. Yeah on a little further consideration I decided that NT is definitly the best way to go. I'm gonna give it a shot. I'll be better of in the long run. Hey maybe I'll go for a triple boot system! :D (not!)
