The audigy is okay for home stuff. If you really want to use it for recording spend some extra cash on a Delta card. The noise is lower and they do true 24bit recording.

soundblaster is also 24bit and low noise. I was told this is the way to go. but if another ones better i want that. any second opinions

Not really 24bit

Not 100% positive, but I believe the advertised specs for the Audigy are misleading.

They trumpet 24/96, but always suspiciously paired with the terms "playback" or "output".

I've actually read a review that said the input actually IS still limited to 16/48, and they're blowing smoke up people's butt with this 24/96 nonsense.

Can someone confirm that?

(Current owner of a SBLive Platinum that really wishes he'd ponied up for a Delta instead.)

None of the Sound Blaster line, including the audigy record at 24bit. The audigy specs are misleading - it was 24 bit converters - but that is D/A converters, aka playback.

Another vote for a Delta here...I've got the 44, but the Audiophile would suit your purposes better I've you're planning on importing songs from your Roland.

Damn...

Listen to Gidge...

I'd seen that unit on M-Audios site but I didn't know it was specifically for Roland units. A couple of friends of mine will be very interested in that baby.

Check specs of Audigy very carefully!
It works at 24bit only via SPDIF, which means that its converters are 16 bit.
