Does anyone know if the quality of the soundcard's driver has a big effect on the quality of your recording? I know everything else in the chain does.thanks,

The issue wold be more with the card itself, especially if you are using its convertors.
Less so if all inputs are digital, in which case your main issues are due to poor shielding and interference.
The drivers usually don't have much of an impact on quality but rather on stability and features.
