Hi,

I'm a newby to the digital recording world and am having trouble selecting a sound card. I have a decent computer (1.4GB Athlon, 512 MB PC2100 DDR RAM) and I'm looking for a sound card that will provide ultra-low to zero latency and clean sound. I probably won't need to record more than 2 or 3 tracks at once. Of course, I'd rather not spend $900 on the Aark 24 or the Delta 1010. I'm hoping I can get away with about $500.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mr.H

get a Staudio cport or a delta 1010 then you can get them both under $500. the cport is only gonna cost you $399. the aardvark 24/96 is a great card to...how many in/outs do you need, midi?, what type of music..tell us what you need.

Thanks for the response.

I'm looking for at least 6 In/ 6 out, and I've been told that it's worth it to get the XLR pre-amped mike inputs. I haven't used MIDI to date, but It's a possibility. I play mostly rock and roll and do almost all of my recording solo - Let's just say the rest of my band is somewhat unreliable. I had a look at the C-Port and it looks nice. Any suggestions on where to pick it up (secret online superdiscount stores?)

Thanks,

Mr.H

c-port

I have the c-port and I paid $420 w/shipping.It is 10X10 full duplex ,8 1/4" ins and outs plus stereo S/PDIF.Also,ganged with 1 & 2 above are two XLR ins with mic pres and phantom power. They also make a more expensive unit with all XLRs.Four c-ports can be daisey chained for up to 40 simultanious tracks. Here is a streaming file of a tune I recorded with my c-port a couple of nights ago.All tracks dry except for some mild compression across the mix.Have a listen.

Yo Heavy,

you may want to consider a Delta 1010. Although the C-port has the mic pre's, I'm not sure if using the onboard pre's are going to do you justice down the line. You'd be better off buying seperate pre and going with the 1010. I can be had for $502 (US) at Bayview...or if you have a local delaer...most will match the price. The C-port is a nice unit, but I'd perfer the Delta over it.

but cakewalk 9 sucks...lol
the delta is a solid buy and can be had for less than $502. you should be able to get one for about $420-480.
as for quality, you can't hear any difference from the cport and the delta1010 on genelec monitors nor a $20,000 car stereo that hits 159db :D so either buy will be great. those are the top 2 card out right now pick one

o and the delta and the cport both come with Logic

same boat

i'm shopping for a card too and have the same needs as mr. heavy. a delta 410 has 4 ins and 10 outs but no xlr's so does that mean u need a mixing board as well? i just started looking and have only seen the delta 1010 &410 so far. are these good quality or can u recommend other brands ? what should i stay away from ?

C9,

Where can you get a 1010 for $420. I searched all over for the best price and Bayview was it. Guitar Center matched it, so I went with them, because they are located only 20 minutes from the house...not two days by UPS.

Lexicon Core2 is a good buy and way under $500 bones. I have one here in the studio and use it often.

Thanks!

I really appreciate the help guys. A special thanks to Tom Hicks for posting that track. I really like the way the piano and vibes are mixed together. Very nice.

Happy Holidays all,

Mr.H

the lowest i've seen it was 420, i don't think your gonna get one at that price unless you go to ebay or digibid.

core 2 usually = problems unless your using 95 or 98. but it doesn't have 6ins...you can get core2's brand new for $149,but they aren't made anymore either

Core 2's are 4 in, right? So is it possible to run 2 Core 2's at once to get 8 in for $300? I'd sure be interested...

Does anyone have any opinions about the Digi 001 compared to the delta 1010 and these other models?
Is it a good buy for the money?
Thanks.

Well, the question was 2 or 3 tracks at a time. I have had almost no problems with the core2 at all and when I have had some I just called Lexicon and talked with the tech. They have always been very supportive and willing to help.

BUT...I have also has good experiences with the Delta66 and Terratec makes a very decent 8 track unit. (Is it 8 or 6? Its been a while)
