I have a SB Live 5.1 card and loaded some soundfonts into SynthA. However, i started to experience a lot of polyphony problems in my compositions (notes cutting off etc) so a friend said I should use SynthB bank as well to give me more polyphony. So i loaded some sounds into SynthB, but whenever i try to access them using my sequencers (Sibelius and Cakewalk Pro) my computer crashes!! AGHH!!! If anyone can shed some light on this matter or suggest a solution it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Have you allocated enough of your Ram to the soundfonts you are using. The live will use up to half of you physical memory so make sure you have allocated enough in the HQ section.

I would personally use a sound font player rather than the live card. You will gain a lot more control over what is allocated to each track. There are quite a few free one on the net.

Thanks for your advice. I have 1500MB of RAM and I have allocated over half of this to SB so it shouldn't b a problem. I'm not too familiar with using soundfont players. I looked at a couple on the net (fruity & E-MU). Am i still able to map then to sibelius just as easily as using the soundcard?

Long time ago I had one of those things. Don't A & B have to use the same SFs banks with a Live?. Maybe your sequencer is trying to set up different patches at the same time - you can't. Simply load the instruments for A and access the same programs with tracks using synth B.

Yeah, the Live has some limitations. It might have maximum RAM limitations (32 MB strikes my memory), and I always thought only one of the two synths could be a Sound Font player.

Ethan Winer knows this stuff... (Ethan, where are you?)

Thanx so much for all your help guys. You are a lot more helpful then the Creative support guys! I have updated the drivers and it seems to have fixed the crashing problem. Still having difficulty with the polyphony though (notes cutting off etc...) so if anybody knows some solutions to this i'd love to hear them.
Thanks again

That sounds like a polyphony limitatiom. If I remember correctly, the SB Live only has 64 voice polyphony which means that if you are playing more than 64 notes at any given time. they will be cut off.

I think its time you step into the 21st century and start using softsynths and get a real soundcard. Polyphony there is only a factor of your computer's processiing power. There are quite a few sample playback softsynths that read SF2 files...

can anyone reccomend some good softsynths that play sf2 files?
