Do any of you have the Soundblaster Audigy6.1 and if so, any comments good or bad? I'm in the process of purchasing a new computer which I can upgrade the Soundcard to the Audigy 6.1. Just wondering if it's worth the extra $$$ to do so. The specs look pretty decent, 24/96, 3 Stereo Inputs/outputs etc. I'll be using it with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.
Thanks!

Creative = gamers

Its that simple. If you're serious about recording, get something from M-Audio or Echo. The DACs will sound better and drivers will be much more stable.

Its obvious who they're targetting with the name of the product. Its for your typical college student who wants to have 6.1 audio on his PC to watch DVDs in the dorm room and doesn't have room for a real Dolby Digital setup.

Ditto.

I do use a Soundblaster Live 5.1 ($35) for MIDI and soundfonts, however.

Thanks for the replies. It's kind of what I figured, but I have to admit it was tempting getting a 24/96 soundcard for $149. I have the Aardvark Direct Pro installed in my current computer and I thought for the money I could have another system capable of producing decent recordings without disturbing my current system.

You still can get a 24/96 card for $149. Echo Mia or M Audio Audiophile.

As Mr. Brzilian said, the converters blow away anything Creative has ever made.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Audigy. The specs are impressive. However, I have read that the software drivers have caused some people problems with their systems.

A few years ago I bought a Turtle Beach card - basically a gamer card - but it had good specs. I was VERY, VERY happy with the results.

I'd check it out for yourself. If it doesn't meet your expectations, return it.

Creative has always been known to "spice up" specs on paper. It doesn't mean its true or better than a card which was really designed for audio recording rather than games.
