two days ago i couldn't get sound out of the drumkit from hell 2 VST instrument by itaself. then when i got sound, I found out I needed to run it through my cubase program to do anything with it. I got some help on here and now I can hear sound from the the drumkit from hell program when opened by itself, but when I load it into the VST instruments in cubase no sound comes out.

a messege popped up stating my configurations were different, but I have no idea how to fix this. I am a total newbie to home recording with the exception of a 4-track.

when I pull up the VST section where it says all the stuff about adding and removing busses etc. it shows the same ASIO stuff as well as the same soundboard as it shows on the Drumkit from hell 2 program (AC97 2.3...something along those lines). My other problem is this. I bought a soundblaster audigy platinum card (not the best but it was only $60, and the damn thing didn't work). I do no have mixing monitors yet and have to rely on the 5.1 creative labs speaker system for the next few months. The problem here is, I bought the audigy card before I got my new computer, and it supported 5.1 sound. When I got the new comp, I didn't install the broken audigy card. the new comp has a 7.1 set up and I haven't figured out how to hook up 2 of the other speakers. So I have the sub woofer, and 2 other speakers hooked up. When I go into the cubase setup it says ad a bus with these options: mono, stero, 5.1, and 5.0...I have no idea which one to use. It says I am set up for 5.1, but I am not recieving any sound. All I know is that when I hit certain things on the keyboard, the 2 little blue bars show that there should be some sound, and when I hit keys on the keyboard a red touch sesitive meter comes up that also tells me there should be some sound somewhere. I also tried hitting mute and unmute, but I am guessing that is for VSTI's etc.

I just sat on that comp for 2 hours with no luck. the only sound I get is whne I close down cubase and just open drumkit from hell by itself. I also get audio through windows media player. I am figuring I don't have something configured correctly and I have tried everything my limited knowledge has afforded me.

if someone can help, it would deffinately be appreciated.

Do you have a manual for Cubase? I think that a lot of what you need to know is in there.

I did alot of that when starting out with Cubase. Hopefully you learned something in those 2 hours, and wrote it down.

First thing, setup a stereo out bus. Forget the 5.1, 5.0 surround stuff for now. Next, import an audio track in Cubase to verify that you're out bus is working. After importing a file (any wav or mp3 file), hit play on the transport. If you get sound, it's working. If not, hit the manual again.

After you get the out bus working, load DFH as a vst (device setup, vst instruments, click a empty slot, choose DFH).

Next, setup a MIDI track. Make sure that the MIDI track is set for the same MIDI channel as DFH. Alternately, just set the MIDI channel on your MIDI track to ANY.

Set the MIDI track's input for your MIDI controller if you have one. Alternately, set the track's input for ALL MIDI Inputs. If you don't have a controller, you will need to insert a MIDI event into the MIDI track. Your controller or the MIDI event is what will trigger DFH's drum samples.

Set the MIDI track's output for DFH.

Either hit play, or hit some keys on your conroller and you should get sound from DFH.
