Can anyone recommend some to me? and some places I could read up on it?

(there may be some threads on this already but the search is still down. Sorry!)

Here's a few -

http://www.etfacoustic.com/

http://www.purebits.com/

Each has its good/bad points; some let you dnl a demo - CARA offers a "controller" for real-time measurements, it's about $250 - it's a serial device, but I was told by factory people that they've tested it with several serial/usb converter cables (about $25-30) and had no problems whatever. Cara lets you model any room/speaker combination(if you have specs and a lot of time) to find best position combinations - don't order it without the tutorial disk, the whole package (minus controller) is under $100 and well worth it (again, it's very time intensive though)

ETF runs about $250 for the SW, will work with a standard sound card and the Radio Shack Sound level meter (for lower frequency measurements) and is available with a full-range mic and preamp for around $550. It's arguably the most comprehensive for under $1k - check out their "demo room" for an education in itself.

Don't know much about the other two, just had the links stored in the same folder... Steve

Steve,

Just to clarify, ETF costs only $150 USD. You might be thinking of the calibrated mike they sell separately for $250.

I use ETF all the time and it's great.
