ok.

I have a gina20 that I recently got. I'm running my guitar into a Johnson J Station to preamp it, with instrument cables going into the sound card on both channels (right and left) and then into Cakewalk Home Studio 2K2.

When I am just playing my guitar through the computer it sounds fine.

When I record it and play it back, it is a MUCH lower volume and a bit crackly.

What's going on? Why can't I get the same sound as when I am just playing it?

Your recording input levels are too low.

Read the Gina documentation for how to adjust them; they probably have a mixer applet in the control panel.

I'm not sure the Gina20 has adjustable input levels.

My Darla20 doesn't.

The output level is adjustable though, through the Darla mixer.

Make sure to assign the playback through the Gina and not through the internal soundcard. When you assign the Gina you should have a couple output busses appear in the console view. Check those faders to be sure they're up near 0dB.
