PS. Alot of what you said in your post is questionable, but I think this is what you meant?!?

Hey thane, what does the catalog say these "supposedly" do? Thanks.

This is what's written in the catalog, page 40.
Aural.Xpanders.™ The Toolkit for Sonic Sculpting!™

Aural.Xpanders give the recording engineer a high degree of control by providing the capability to filter the undesireable external overtones-nasty anomalies that tend to push engineers to over-process during mixing stage.

Aural.Xpanders offers the recording engineer a means of tonal control and passive filtering before sound ever hits the signal path and before ever reaching for a knob or launching a plug-in.

Seems kinda vague if you ask me.......

I don't know if it does what they say :D but I often wondered if you had small mini absorbers around the mic, if for nothing else, but to isolate the mic, reduce comb filtering from walls etc. I'm going to try making some ....for when my somewhat studio build finally starts takeing shape. It won't be long. ... yea, right. :D

If you come up with something cool, post pics in the DIY Thread.

Hi,
I just recently finished recording a song and sang the vocals kind of far from the mic. I was told that I got a lot of the room sound, and since the room I'm recording in isn 't acoustically treated, it wasn't a good thing.
So, I was told to use moving blankets possibly behind, around the mic and me.
I came up with something in the meantime which seems to have helped a lot I think.

I like to use those Expanders on snare drum mics... With the mic placed to reject the highhats there's usually still just a bit of bleed through. With these little things it's pretty much eliminated.
