what do i need to get

1. Knightflys attention.
2. Psychiatrist.
3. Rich girlfriend.
4. Extended vacation.
5. Stock in Owens Corning
6. Sense of humor

OK, ya got #1 - unfortunately, I'm still lookin' for the other 5 on the list, so LOL...

Whatcha gonna put in the sound booth, and how good does it need to be? In other words, please lay out your WHOLE scene - what's above the basement, what's around it, what kind of music, how loud, is the booth for drums/amps or just vocals, how good a carpenter are you, what's your budget, where do you live, can I borrow your car (ok, just kidding about the car)

Anyway, as much info as you can think of will make things easier - just pretend I'm a blind dude and you want ME to build this thing, and explain it from there... Steve

it'll be for vocals or acustic guitars, no drums or anything, there is a house above it a computure room behind it, the outside of the house on oneside, stairs on the otherside, a big room on the front with all my music equipment in it. i want to be able to record whatever and get the best sound out of it as possible. uh wel as far as a budget it needs to be no more than a grand i guess 7, 8 hundered somwhere around there.

OK, is that 9'x5'x7' the size of the whole basement, or the inside dimensions of the booth, or the outside dimensions of the booth?

If that's NOT the size of the whole basement, what is tha ACTUAL ceiling height where you want to put the booth?

Can you do a basic drawing of a floor plan, showing where you want the door, and where the existing walls are?

Have you done any carpentry before, or do you have a friend who has?

What about tools, what do you have available?

Where do you live? (pricing and availability of materials varies by several TIMES in different parts of the world)

If those are the INSIDE dimensions of the booth, you're already looking good acoustically - that's about the best shape a small booth can be... Steve

those are the inside demensions of the booth, the celin hight is 6' 8''. what i was gonna do is just buy studio foam and put on the walls do i need to completely do that or just in certain spots. i have any tool availiable, yes i have done carptentry work bofore, i live in tennessee.

this is a ruough drawin i did it in paint but you can get the idea

Sim, once you have a tight booth I'd only do about the top 1/3 of it in foam first, then see how it sounds. All foam will suck all the highs out of a room, same as 100% coverage of nearly ANY absorbent... Steve
