I recorded some of our band's songs onto a minidisc recorder. When I plug my headphones into it and listen, the music sounds great... quality I mean. It is sharp and crisp.

When I hook up my MD to my PC, the sound all of a sudden is very much muffled. I have adjusted all the PC and sound card (sound blaster live 5.1) levels, but still the sound sounds muffled and nasty through my speakers (Logitech Z-680 - great sounding speakers).

Any ideas why the sound is getting so muffled? How can I fix this?

Could it be my sound card or what? What should I change or even upgrade? and to what?

Thanks!! I need the help.

NowOnTour,

Sounds like you are either:

a) Recording through the 'Mic In' as opposed to 'Line In'

or

b) Set the level on your MiniDisc too loud. Is there a line out on the MiniDisc?

Play around with that and see how you go

Pretty sure I am plugged into the computer's line-in jack. It was the only jack which would transfer sound to the PC.

I'm coming out of the MD through it's line-out jack. I don't think I recorded the show too loud. It doesn't distort at all and the headphones directly into the player sound great.

Any ideas?

Make sure that under your volume controls, go Options -> Properties, then select recording. From there make sure you have Line In selected as your input. Also, try turning the volume down there a bit and see how you go.
