Hello, I have SF xp 5.0 and I was wondering if I can add a sample at the beginning of a song with this program or do I need the full version with playlist options. When I extract audio from a cd into sound forge then it shows the waveform, can I somehow insert it right at the beginning?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can with XP. Look under Edit/Paste -- I think there are a couple of options like paste over (replacing what's already there), mix (blending with what's already there, and push over (inserting and sliding everything to the right over to make room).

I ran through xp 5.0 and I think I would have to upgrade to 5.0 to use those functions. It's crazy, I paid like $50.00 to get xp and then it costs another $249.00 to upgrade at sonic foundry's website.I can buy it brand new in the box for less than $200.00 at stores around my house.

Yeah, I think I saw it for $150 (??) at Best Buy recently. But I don't think you're correct, I think you can do what you describe. Maybe someone who uses XP can tell you exactly how. AT the clunkiest I think you could do this

Place the cursor at the front and select Insert Silence from the Processes menu (I might have the menu name wrong there, it's ehgere Fade and other such controls are located)

Insert a silence as long as the piece of audio you want to insert.

Copy the audio piece you want, then place the cursor at the beginning of the silence you inserted and paste it.

Thanks!!

AlChuck, I messed around with the program and was able to paste a wav. file at the beginning of my track. Thanks again!!
