hey all i have sound forge xp and wanted to remove some noise from a couple of mastered songs i did on a four track, when i applyed the noise reduction it killed all the volume!(sure no noise but no song either!) the i set the noise rudtion levals and then there was no efect on the noise at all!
if any one knows how to set this thing let me know.

Is this an added plug-in? I can't find the menu command for noise removal in my copy of XP.

do you have sound forge xp 4.5?
I have the newest version i think or so i was told. and there is noise redux on it, its no plugin.

I'm sure I have the latest version of this software which is build 321 of version 4.5d. This info is found under the Help/About
Sound Forge XP... menu selection. What version do you have?
Just fill me in on the menu choices that lead to this noise reduction module. Top level choice followed by second level choice.
This latest build has support for mp3 (or maybe the ability to use the mp3 support that came with Vegas- I'm not sure) that wasn't there on the original CD.

After you get a wave file into S.F. xp click on efects then noise gate..... Im not sure of what settings to use.

AHA! there's the answer to your original question. This is not a noise reduction module. It merely mutes sections of your recording that fall below a certain signal level. This removes funky amp noise and other extraneous noises when there's supposed to be silence in a section. But it won't work when there's sound in the section that you want to keep while removing the noise. It's an all or nothing process, hence the symptoms you described when playing with the settings.

Oh ok .. I will just have to use cool edit when i want to remove hiss.
Thanks man

Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction plug-in is actually a DirectX plug-in, which you need the full version of Sound Forge 4.5 to use, since you can't use DirectX plug-in's in the XP version. Noise Reduction is sold seperately from Sound Forge and other SF products.
