Just got a new computer with windows xp. I upgraded? my soundblaster live sound card to a M audio 24/96. I also moved up to sonar 4.
I used to be able to open soundfont files. Now I can't. Bummer.
What do I need to add to get me back in the soundfont game?

This is a perfect question for the Cakewalk forum. :o

gweek. if you want to try something interesting for songwriting sometime ...
try band in a box. its very usefull for creating a back up band if you
dont have access to line musicians.
peace.

As far as I know, soundfonts are available only for Soundblaster cards.

soundfont

So am I safe to think that sonar 4 will not open a sf2 file?
What software do I need to achieve this?
What I am looking for is to program drums.
Would you guys suggest I go the NI Battery route?

get some drum sample cd's ....and try the free hotstepper (and export into your multitrack software)

ThanX fella's. I'll look into it.
I think I'm gonna miss soundfonts though.

rgcaudio.com has a FREE VSTi called "sfz" that will play soundfonts in your card (no SBLive required.)

Another good one (not free) is Bismark's BS-16.

I dumped my SBLive that I was using solely for soundfonts and use soundfont VSTi's with my 24-bit card now. Actually sounds much better than Creative's hardware and you can run bigger soundfonts....
