the studio is almost done, ill post pictures up in a week or so. and the rooms sound pretty good for being so small, but they just seem a little TOO live and untamed. i have no flutter echo due to my abnormal walls kinda like this http://www.johnlsayers.com/Studio/Images/Sonar/Detail_Plan_1.jpg

except on the large side of the CR, i have straight walls about 3 feet long,

front and back walls are concrete, ceilings are 7'3''
back wall is 15'10"
front is 7'9"
and from front to back is about 12'
couch on the back wall across from the console

the entire basement is 30 feet by 12 feet, with the control room off centered, with rooms on either size of the Control room.

now to my question.
what sort of foam should i get for each room? eggcrate? piramid? wedge? and what are some opinions on placement where are useally some trouble area's and what are some obveous places to stick some foam.

oh and ill be getting the foam from www.foambymail.com

owens corning 703 rigid fiberglass insulation. probably about the same price in your area and absorbs bass frequencies much better. studio foam will give you a rathe bassy sound. In a room that big, you will probably need to build some bass traps. read up on that at johnlsayers.com and ethanwiner.com

on johns, check out the plans for his traps, and the forum and sae recording manual. on ethans, go the the articles page, and click on the second one down, the faq.

if you thought construction was hard, wait till you get into the world of tuning your rooms!

just so you know, no room is 12x30, the whole basemnt is 12x30. and its divided into 3 rooms, the control room which i explained above, and 1 small ish drum room, and a small vocal/amp room

and ive talked to a few dealers of 703/rocwool insulation, and they carry it, but i get the same response "this isnt a big inslulation season, so if you arnt gonna buy the whole truck full, we cant order it for you"

where is your location? ill see if i can find someone to sell it to you

You need to look further afield. Locally one place said that it was an 'east coast thing' yet a few miles away was an insulation distributor that had a whole warehouse of the stuff and had no trouble selling me a bale. However do not expect to buy less than a bale (two foot high stack)

This isn't a big insulation season? Get real. The next few months is when everybody wants to get their new construction sealed in before the winter.
