sound cards with no midi

There are sound cards out there that don't provide MIDI. ie. digital audio labs Card D, as I recall from reading the specs. So if I get one of these cards without MIDI, could I just use the MIDI port from my SB Live! and still recieve great sound quality? I guess what I'm REALLY trying to say is....Is there a quality difference between a MIDI from a SB Live! and a MIDI from a pro audio sound card like the wave 424?

MIDI is MIDI if the port supports the data rate in your MIDI files and your PC supports both cards simultaneously (no conflicts).
The big difference in the sound will be the choice of synthesizer.

drstawl, as always, is right. The synth(s) you choose will make the difference. The SB Live has a synth and a soft synth--they sound the same to me--and it's ok for starters. Also, the Live is known for coexisting easily with other sound cards. it works fine with my DMAN 2044--no conflicts.
