Well, it seems I've spent more time figuring out my gear rather than making music lately, but this is something I think is fairly important. I'm looking to upgrade my soundcard from my current Yamaha ymf724-based card and I need some advice. Ideally, I'd like to be able to record a dry vocal track and hear myself w/ reverb/effects in the headphones. Since I have only a minimal setup (no mixer, just a mic pre) and I don't want to invest in outboard effects, I'd like a way to do this real time in hardware/software if possible. I believe the Aardvark Direct Pro can do this, but its about twice what I want to pay and I'm quite happy with my current mic pres.
Basically, I'd like to know if I can accomplish this without having to buy a Direct Pro or dedicated effects gear. I've been looking at the Lexicon Core2 (and I've heard about the problems) which has an optional effects add-on card. Will this effects card do the real-time effects processing I need? I think if it did I could suffer through the driver issues. BTW, have the drivers improved at all?
Thanks
