I'm getting much better with all this recording business and the audio is great. I have audiobox usb, a zynxz 802 (OK) but not terrific, a good comp and 2 KB,s plus keylab 49.(seems I'm one of the few to get it working properly)
I need 2 bits of advice but go easy on me. At 71, I need to have advice I can understand.
The first is: I'm only using the computers sound arrangement and midi is not very good, especially when I try to use vsti's with it. It goes all scratchy. Should I get a dedicated sound card and if so, which type.( remember, I'm in OZ so not everything may be available in the east coast)
second, I'm using studio one producer. Does anyone know if I can use the analogue lab sounds from Arturia with it and if so, how do I get S1 to recognise analogue lab. I can't figure it out.

I don't really know studio one but was that question not answered recently? I remember someone suggesting that the version you have didn't support virtual instrument plugins? Don't quote me on that....

Can you tell us a bit more about the scratchy sound? A dedicated sound card (audio interface) is always good but you shouldn't be getting scratchy sounds even with basic gear or your built in sound card.
 
Not sure about analogue lab, but if the "scratchy" sound is an intense digital crackling, it could very well be your buffer size…I may have missed it, but which DAW are you using?
 
Audiobox is an OK audio interface so a soundcard oughtn't be needed for purely audio.
Is it running ASIO along with the Keylab? It has Midi IN & OUT.
zynx is assume is a computer. - not much infor re this but a so so computer is all you need if it's midi.
Keylab 49 is a synth/kb controller software/hardware bundle that has USB midi.
What's S1? Software/DAW? Studio One? Is it the free, artist, producer or professional version? Go here:

and sus out if you have a version that supports VSTi plugs. The Producer version says "Studio One Producer offers everything in Artist and more, adding support for ReWire and Audio Units (AU) and VST plug-ins."
East Coast Oz has most things (better than West Coast) but it's much more expensive than Europe & the US.
Are you running the Keylab as USB straight into the comp or as Midi into the interface?
Beyond asking questions to clarify I have no answers - I'm from the south coast of NSW so don't have enough sunshine to illuminate the issue.

Yes it is studio one and I just upgraded it from the basic. I was told that would solve the analogue lab problem but it doesn't seem to.The zynxz is Behringer 802 and not usb.
The audio box doesn't work with asio switched on. Should it? Wouldn't have clue what rewire is. Haven't got that far with the manual.
Dudernut. Yes that crackling is what I mean. That word is descriptive. I mainly get it when I allow S1 to load to load GM sounds. I get the occasional small pop with audio but I figured I'm working in a small room with no shielding and can't expect abbey road.

You got 2 years on me, I shall re-apply for my D license in 2016!

Now, I don't pretend to know an awful lot about your kit or what you are trying to do so I shall just waffle on a bit and maybe you will find something useful amid the dross!

First off go see these people, <info@thesycon.de > then download the latency checker and let it run for 10 mins or so. This will tell you if your computer has any problems running at low latencies.

Next: DAW. I too am ignorant of Studio One so you might find downloading Reaper useful at least to get things working then you should be able to carry over the "larnins" to S1?

I note that both the keyboard and the AI have MIDI ports? Good oh! At least run one DIN lead from MIDI out to AI MIDI in that should give you the simplest path to trigger sounds in software. A very good "testbed" for MIDI is the freebie of Modartt's Pianoteq. That fetches up as a stand alone "soft" piano and will prove the system out, yay or nay.

IF! you get that far you can connect another DIN cable back to the kdb and then run audio from it to the Presonus' line ins and (I am pretty sure!) record the sounds in the box!

Once you have all this tangled web working it is quite likely that it can all be tidied up and work via USB but leave us K.I.S.Sir first?

One thing I forgot Baz "small room....no shielding"?? We all do mate, should not cause any popping or crackling. For the record you don't need balanced lines except for mics (well maybe if you live next to a substation!)

+1 on that...I have been using Reaper, and I had similar problems with the crackling when using certain plugins. Somewhere in the buffering or playback preferences, I was able to find a balance of stability and performance that works for my cheap-ass PC. Studio One probably has similar settings, but I wouldn't know how to lead you there.
 
there is a lesson to be learned here.
Outside my window, my wife has a transformer that runs her garden lights. It twigged that the noise got louder at night so I switched it off and it reduced but not entirely gone.
Then I checked asio driver as suggested. Sure enough, realtek speakers was active along with audiobox in and out. Adjusted and more noise gone but not entirely.
Went to sound (control panel) and again, realtek was selected. Fixed that and noise gone.
These are some things that a newbie like me should have checked earlier but didn't.
The cpu went down to less than 10%.
I'm a happy chappy.
