Sorry guys, didn't know the best place to post this question.

I'm going to be purchasing a sound card soon, looking at spending at most $200 USD.

I primarily use cool edit pro, and record a couple of guitars and vocals through a yamaha mixer.

If I can be any more specific in anyway, please let me know. I'm just looking for a half decent sound card within that price range.

Thanks for any replies, and for putting up with such a generic question.

Dave.

How many channels/tracks of audio will you need to record simultaneously? That is really the deciding factor in addition to price. For PC, M-Audio cards are very popular in that pricerange. For 2 channels, the 2496; 4 channels, Delta 44 & 66; lotsa channels, Delta 1010LT.

If you think you might want to record a band or a drumset, you'll want something with extra channels.

I'm sure others will have additional suggestions.

I believe the maximum would be 2 at a time. That said, I'd pay a little extra so as to potentially save me a bit more in the long run.

If you think you need two, get four. You'll always end up needing more. Do you need MIDI or SPDIF? If not then get a Delta 44. Delta 66 for SPDIF. Both of these are all balanced inputs ... and very good value for money.

You can look at the E-Mu cards too but they haven't established the long-standing reputation M-Audio has just yet.
