Sound Card?

Is all I need a sound card and a mic to record my own cd? Would I also have to buy some software to? I'm a little confused. Anyway, is there a certain type of sound card that would be compatable with my pc? Or is any alright? How does it work? Do I just plug it in or some sort of attatchment? Anyway, if someone could help me out, that'd be great. I have no one else to ask, so any info will work!

You would get the best results by running the mic in to a mic preamp to bring the signal to the right levels for a line level input on a soundcard.

M-Audio has the AudioBuddy which can be bought for $99.
