Hey yall!
I have a gateway pc I have been using for recording I have been using the built in sound card(sound blaster).
But I want to get a better quality card I have been thinking about a echo card such as the darla 24bit. My question is............
Since i tryed to installa midi card once and it didnt fit the slots will I have trouble with a card not fitting? am i doing somethig wrong?
I have been looking at the tascam USB interface and It looks like it wont be hard to as a option if the card wont fit my pc.
I am finaly getting my studio space in feb. so I am upgrading my pc with more ram and new hard drives.
any help or more sujestions would be a loife saver thanks yall.

When you say it wouldn't fit in the slots- do you mean the card was too long or too wide for the case?
The GINA card is really small.
If a SB fits, the Darla should as well.
Were you trying to install an ISA card in a PCI slot or vice-versa?

The Darla 24 has a standard PCI Card. If you have
an available PCI slot, you will be fine. If
you have an older PC with isa slots, Darla wont
work. David

Hi! Im an Idiot!

Ok, uuuummmmmmmm....
All I know is I do have three slots available and the sound blaster is on the same panel(not a separate card) as the keyboard conections and mouse conections it a built in thing........ The pc is like a year old so I gather it wont be a problem but i want to be sure and taking it to gateway and haveing them do it isnt an option cause they will rip me off to do it.... I guess Ill have to mesure the slots and mesure one at the store to be sure.
any other advice?

reco, go to best buy or another big store, rattle
off what specs you have, and act like you might buy
something. They will tell you what kind of slots
you have, etc. If you're computer is only a year
old, you got pci slots, so dont fret.

You have USB ports? you gotta have PCI slots then,
USB is a new thing. (Well, new in computer talk
is an oxymoron)

A word about USB and audio: I have heard from
a lot of folks that USB cant handle a whole
lot of audio, so beware of the tascam gizmo,
although it looks cool, and I was pondering
getting one. I do lots of audio trax,
so it is probably not for me. David

h mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah I gathered that there was some limits to the usb thing.
I will check it out fer sure.
thanks.

hi Reco, another thought: If you find out that the tascam
works good with audio, then check out the
Event EZbus, which is similiar. I dont know if the product
is even shipping yet; they did a major advertising
blitz a few months ago, but so far I havent seen one.
Maybe they found some bugs, and are postponing the
release.
Anyhoo, If that that unit is out someday, it looks
very cool, much cooler than the tascam. Check it
out, David

Its out actualy its like 600 bucks though........
Im looking at my posibilitys any one have sugjestions as to other sound cards that you like.
