hey yall. i'm in the market to get a recording sound card. i don't want to spend over $500 for it. i want it to have great quality also... so what to get? i've had my eye on:

1. Motu 2408
2. Staudio C-Port
3. Aardvark 24/96
4. Delta 1010
5. TerraTec EWS88 MT
6. Echo layla24 (used)
what card would you recommend? it doesn't have to be on my list.

Thats quite a variety of soundcards....you will have to give your input/output needs(how many sources you will be recording at once)...also what sources are you recording......do you have a mixer or preamps already or is that included in the $500 budget......

sorry about that. i have a tascam m1600 console. input/out needs... ? computer number 1, i have 2 dats, and a mini disk. but the computer and the dats are the main sources. i have a korg triton, roland xp-60, mpc2000xl, boss dr.770 and a mo phatt going in this studio.

i don't have any cheap equipment so i want a real good card. the poll right now is go with the C-Port. i was going to seeing its only $415

anyone????? i can get even better prices now, the c-port around $300.... i guess i'll go with it because i don't have many replys.....

I would go with the Layla. You have several synths which no doubts all have several outputs. If you have some kind of midi interface for your PC to hook up your sequencer to your synths you will need several inputs. The Layla simply has the best sound quality of any of the cards on that list. A close second would be the Delta 1010. As for the C-Port I've never heard of it... it isnt available here in the UK I dont think....

you haven't heard of the c-port, go to Http://www.staudio.com or http://www.c-port.net/

i have heard recordings with the delta 1010, then the c-port and the c-port sounded better. the c-port has 8 in 8 out just like every other card i listed other than the aardvark 24/96

10-24-2001 how brought this topic back... i did buy a delta 1010 though

c9-2001,
I remember you've been a proponent of C-port.
Did you make a switch?
What exactly did you not like about C-port? I am thinking whether I should get one, so this is a practical question.
Also what type of breakout box did you have? I read that there are several variations here.

go with the layla24. excellent card... a breeze to set up
