sound card/ DAW problem

My sound card is set at 96khz until I load Cubase LE and then it jumps too 44. If I try to set my Cubase to 96, it won't let me because the card is at 44. It won't let me change the card to 96 unless Cubase is closed. Open Cubase and it hops back to 44. I want to record at 96, then export for mastering at 44. I dont know what to do. I even uninstalled my soundcard in the device manager and reinstalled. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure how to solve your problem. But in a way, it's not a problem that I would (personally) be inclined to solve. I don't think you suffer by recording at 44. There are marginal gains to be had at 96, but for me, there are so many other factors having a greater infuence on quality that those gains are not worth their pains.

You didn't mention what soundcard you have. Does it have an ASIO driver? That might make the difference whether you can change it through Cubase or not. When I change sample rates, a screen for my interface pops up and asks to load the appropriate settings. I think the ASIO driver is what makes this happen.

I just recently switched from 96khz to 44.1khz and haven't noticed a difference in quality. But I have noticed a difference in cpu usage and plug-in utilization. I second Geck's recommendation.

You also didn't mention what card it was either.

Open Cubase, go to project settings and change the sample rate to 96k. Save the project and close Cubase.

You might also want to create an empty project, set the sample rate in project settings at 96kHz and save it as template.

Now, make sure your card is set to 96kHz and the source is set to Internal (or something similar) and then open the newly saved project.

If you are just recording using a USB/Firewire interface with 1 or 2 inputs, I really wouldn't worry about it. It will just eat your processor.

Its probably an ASIO problem. Maybe the ASIO you are using doesn't recognise the card does 96k.
